File # 2021-198109

*All roads re-opened December 30, 2021*

Surrey RCMP wishes to make the public aware of a motor vehicle collision with a road closure on 176th street, between 96th avenue and 88th avenue, 2021-12-30.

On 2021-12-29, at approximately 2300 hours, Surrey RCMP responded to a report of several vehicles that had collided in the south-bound lanes of 176th street, near the 92 avenue intersection. A late model station wagon was travelling south bound on 176th street, when it lost control due to the hazardous weather conditions, and was struck by another vehicle. Several other vehicles also lost control on the hill, resulting in several other minor collisions.

A passenger in the station wagon has been transported to a local area hospital to be treated for injuries sustained in the initial collision. There have been no other reported injuries.

Alcohol and speed have been ruled out as factors in the collision, and the weather conditions are the major contributing factor. The incident is still under investigation.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area for the foreseeable future, as 176th street will be closed between 88th avenue and 96th avenue.

Anyone with more information, including dash cam footage of the incident, is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 and quote file number: 2021-198109.
