On September 1, 2024, Sunshine Coast RCMP were called to a single vehicle collision, in the area of Madeira Park, on the Sunshine Coast Highway. The vehicle involved was travelling southbound, near Ruby Lake, when it went down an embankment, requiring emergency personnel to extract the driver from the wreckage. The driver was pronounced dead on scene. There were no passengers in the vehicle and no other vehicle was involved. The cause of the crash is still under investigation, police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has any information about the events leading up to it to come forward.
