On February 11, 2023 just before 9:00pm a member of the Sidney / North Saanich RCMP was conducting some proactive speed enforcement on Highway 17 when a speeding vehicle caught their eye.

A white sedan appeared to be traveling well in excess of the posted speed limit of 90km/h. A quick check confirmed that the vehicle was travelling at more than 50km/h over the posted speed limit.
The Sidney/ North Saanich RCMP front line member activated their emergency lights and siren and conducted a traffic stop with the sedan. Through interacting with the driver the officer determined that the driver was impaired by alcohol.
