File # 2021-5884
During the week of December 1st to 7th, RCMP Officers participated in the National Safe Driving Week Campaign. Uniformed members of the Sidney/North Saanich RCMP focused on impaired driving by conducting numerous Drinking Driving Counter Attack check stops and traffic stops throughout the week. This effort resulted in 7 impaired driving investigations, numerous violation tickets being issued and numerous vehicles being impounded.
As we come into the holiday season, I must press the importance of the public being responsible when consuming alcohol and/or cannabis prior to driving. Driving is a task which requires your complete attention. The unexpected can happen in moments, even a second of extra reaction time can make the difference between an avoided collision and a tragedy. If you choose to drink or consume cannabis please plan ahead and arrange a designated driver or call a taxi,
said Corporal Andres Sanchez media relations officer with the Sidney/North Saanich RCMP.
The Sidney/North Saanich RCMP has seen an increase in recent months of cases of impaired drivers and will continue their vigilance in addressing those who still choose to drive while impaired. Police continue to rely on the assistance of the public in reporting dangerous driving situations. If you suspect someone is driving while impaired, please call 911 or your local police detachment at 250-656-3931.
