
Arrest made after traffic incident

Maple Ridge, B.C. – Ridge Meadows RCMP have arrested one man during a vehicle collision incident yesterday.
On August 24, at around 1:30 PM, members of the newly formed Ridge Meadows RCMP’s Specialized Response Team (SRT) were performing proactive patrols in the 22300 block area of Lougheed Highway when they observed a vehicle being operated by a man who was known to have multiple outstanding warrants. The man tried to flee the area in the vehicle and subsequently struck an unrelated civilian bystander. The vehicle then proceeded through a chain link fence and over an embankment. The suspect continued to resist arrest and a Conductive Energy Weapon was utilized to subdue the suspect and arrest him. The civilian bystander was tended to by Maple Ridge Fire and was transported to hospital by BC Emergency Health Services with non-life-threatening injuries.
40 year old, Pitt Meadows resident, Shawn Bradley Gillam, was arrested on outstanding warrants which include;
- Uttering threats
- Assault
- Breach of probation
This morning the following additional charges against Mr. Gillam were approved in BC Provincial Court;
- Dangerous Operation of a vehicle
- Breach of probationary order
- Failing to stop for a police officer
Mr. Gillam remains in custody and further charges may occur pending the police investigation.
