Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows B.C. – Ridge Meadows RCMP attended 5 schools today in efforts to remind drivers to leave the phone alone and think of the kids when driving in school zones.
On March 31, 2022, it was all hands on deck as Ridge Meadows RCMP Crime Reduction Teams joined forces with the Ridge Meadows Road Safety Team, Crime Prevention volunteers and Metro Vancouver Traffic Police officer Jenny Chung, to participate in the "Think of Me" campaign.

The Think of Me campaign features police officers handing out hand written messages, known as "positive tickets" created by students, urging drivers to please slow down and pay attention in school zones. The police teams were also joined by representatives from ICBC who provide the signage and funding for the initiative.

Students and teachers at Albion, Yennadon, Davie Jones, Hyland Park and Pitt Meadows Elementary Schools all drew pictures to remind drivers to slow down in school zones and leave the phone alone. The students and teachers also made appearances on school grounds once police were in their areas for the campaign.

"We regularly receive public complaints regarding speed being a problem in all of our school zones," states Corporal Julie Klaussner. "Please, just take a second to check your speed and be thoughtful of your surroundings. A split decision to look away from the road or go too fast could be the difference in a child being injured, or worse, killed."

Today Police issued approximately 250 positive tickets in the school zones. 7 Violation Tickets were issued there one prohibited driver was stopped, and a 24 hour drug related suspension.
