Police respond to daylight shooting

Maple Ridge, B.C. – Ridge Meadows RCMP is investigating reports of a shooting that took place in Maple Ridge this afternoon.

On January 20, 2024, at approximately 2:40 p.m., Ridge Meadows RCMP frontline officers received and responded to reports of a shooting in the area of 123 Avenue and 222 Street. Police arrived on scene and observed two vehicles that had been involved in a collision.

The driver of one of the vehicles was suffering from gunshot wounds and was taken to hospital by BC Emergency Health Services (BC EHS).

Police also received reports of a vehicle on fire in the 20800 block of 123 Avenue which is believed to be linked to the shooting.

The Ridge Meadows RCMP Investigative Support Team (IST) and Serious Crimes Unit (SCU) also attended the scene and have conduct of the investigation. 123 Avenue will be closed between 222 Street and Hillside Street for several hours as police continue the investigation.

Police believe this to be a targeted incident and there is no further threat to public safety at this time.

This is currently an active and ongoing investigation and no further information is available at this time.

Police are still seeking witnesses, video surveillance or dash cam footage in the areas of 123 Avenue and 222 Street as well as in the 20800 block of 123 Avenue. If you have information for the police please contact the Ridge Meadows RCMP directly at 604-463-6251.
