Maple Ridge, B.C. – Ridge Meadows RCMP are launching a new public relations initiative called Profiles, a series of feature articles which will highlight the work police perform and the different people and units which make up the local police detachment.

In September of last year, Media Relations Officer, Corporal Julie Klaussner, penned a first person account of her experience after being deployed to assist with the BC fires plaguing the province. The reception to the article inspired a recognition that the citizens of Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows are curious about the roles and duties their police officers perform. In response, the detachment was motivated to come up with a creative way to showcase what certain departments and units do.

Everyone understands that police are focused on public safety but, how do our different police units actually work? What are their responsibilities? What does it mean when we share an integrated district unit? These are the kind of questions which I believe our citizens are curious about, states Superintendent Wendy Mehat. And, we’d like to highlight the human side of our officers too. Providing these first person perspectives should make for interesting reading. Ultimately, we want to provide our citizens with some insight as to the how’s and why’s of the work we perform.

The Profiles articles will be a Six-part series published throughout the year starting this week with an article written by Constable Craig Andrews titled, Being the New Guy, which will highlight what it’s like to be a brand new Constable fresh out of Depot training.

The Profile series will be made available through the Ridge Meadows RCMP’s website and shared on their social media channels.
