Suspect with Canada wide warrant arrested in alleged stolen vehicle

Richmond frontline officers with the assistance of New Westminster Police Department arrest woman on Canada wide warrant in alleged stolen vehicle.

At approximately 1:37 am on February 13, 2024 a Richmond RCMP frontline officer was conducting routine patrols in the 3000 block of Great Canadian Way when he observed a vehicle that had been reported stolen out of Vancouver.

The frontline officer was able to follow the vehicle from a safe distance while additional police resources could engage in an attempt to stop the vehicle.

The vehicle proceeded to drive into the Queensborough area where officers from the New Westminster Police Department deployed a tire deflation device. Following this, Richmond RCMP officers attempted a traffic stop with the vehicle but the vehicle did not stop.

Shortly afterwards, a second officer from the New Westminster Police Department attempted to deploy a second tire deflation device but the vehicle allegedly swerved towards the officer almost hitting him. The vehicle, however, suddenly changed direction and lost control resulting in the vehicle hitting a lamppost and ending up partially on its side in a ditch.

Two individuals were extracted from the vehicle and placed under arrest. It was subsequently determined that one of the occupants was wanted on a Canada wide warrant.

This clearly demonstrates the potential risk to safety that our officers can face, says Corporal Adriana O’Malley, Richmond RCMP Media Relations Officer, We are extremely proud of the actions of all of the officers involved in this arrest and want to thank our partners at the New Westminster Police Department who played an integral role in this arrest.

Both parties in the vehicle suffered minor injuries and were transported to a local area hospital for treatment. After being released from hospital, the one occupant with the Canada wide warrant was held in-custody.

Additional charges associated to this investigation are pending.

This investigation remains active and ongoing.
