The North Vancouver RCMP, supported by partner agencies, have launched the #ChooseYourRide campaign to raise awareness about the dangers of drinking and driving.

Sadly, each year in B.C. on average, 61 people die in crashes involving impaired driving, according to ICBC road safety statistics. Even one impaired driver is one too many. The risk they represent is unacceptable, and that’s why police will continue to educate the public to make the right choice.

When you #ChooseYourRide this holiday season, we want people to make the right choice. Planning ahead, getting a ride, or taking a taxi, rideshare or public transit is the safest way to make it home safe. Drinking and getting behind the wheel is a choice that sadly many people make. For those people, they will have a choice of riding in the back of a police car, ambulance or sadly in the back of a hearse. The choice is yours.

Our message to the public is take the cheapest and safest ride home. Let transit take you home safely. As part of the provincial government’s Get On Board program, children aged 12 and under can ride public transit for free across B.C.

As part of North Vancouver RCMP’s road safety strategy, officers will be out in greater numbers during this holiday season, running CounterAttack road checks and looking for drivers who are under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs while behind the wheel.

The North Vancouver RCMP would like to thank BC Emergency Health Services, TransLink, North Shore Taxi and First Memorial Funeral Services for supporting the launch of the #ChooseYourRide campaign.
The question remains, who’s going to take you home? #ChooseYourRide.. carefully..
