Shortly before 10 pm on October 13, a passerby noticed a blue Dodge Caravan in the intersection of Lougheed Highway and Nelson Street, with damage indicative of the van having been in a serious collision. Police attended and found the female driver of the van pinned behind the steering wheel. Her van was reportedly struck by a left-turning Ford pickup, which then fled the scene. Officers located a matching pickup – a grey 2003 Ford F-350 – abandoned nearby, in the area of Nelson Street and Silverdale Avenue. Police also located the vehicle owner nearby, walking away from the truck. The 17-year-old male was arrested for failing to stop after an accident, and public mischief. The female was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The investigation is ongoing – any witnesses are asked to call Mission RCMP at 604-826-7161, file 24-12430.

In the late afternoon of October 7, a witness reported seeing a male exit a liquor store in Mission, and begin drinking from a small bottle of liquor. The male then got into a vehicle and drove away. An officer located the vehicle parked back at the driver’s residence a short time later and spoke with the driver, who admitted consuming alcohol. He failed two roadside screening tests, and was issued a 90-day driving prohibition, and a 30-day vehicle impound. Drivers are reminded that impaired-driving charges can still be issued even if a driver is no longer behind the wheel when located by police.

Shortly before noon on October 9, first responders attended the 12100 block of Bell Street, after a triple-axle flat-deck truck crashed into the ditch. It appears as though the truck drifted onto the soft shoulder of the roadway, which gave way, causing the truck to slide into the ditch. The driver sustained minor injuries and was transported to hospital. The City of Mission also attended, as the collision caused oil to spill into a nearby creek.

A Mission RCMP officer conducted a traffic stop of an orange minivan with a burned-out headlight on October 9 around 11 pm, near Lougheed Highway and Haig Street. The driver was in possession of multiple knives, drugs pipes and a small quantity of suspected crack cocaine. He also exhibited signs of being impaired by drugs. The 30-year-old male driver was issued a driving prohibition, as well as an inspection order for various vehicle defects.

A black Dodge Ram 1500 came to the attention of one of Mission RCMP’s Traffic Services officers, after it failed to stop at a stop sign on 14th Avenue shortly before 11 pm on October 11. The officer conducted a traffic stop on 14th Avenue west of Cedar Street. The driver, from Alberta, had symptoms consistent with having consumed marihuana, and there was also a strong odour of marihuana inside the truck. As the officer stepped toward the back of the vehicle, he saw the passenger put his hand out the window and drop something onto the ground. When the officer looked, he saw that the passenger had in fact dropped a loaded handgun out of the truck. As the officer was in the process of arresting the passenger, he took off running and was not located. The driver was issued a driving prohibition due to impairment by cannabis, and the investigation into the passenger’s possession of the firearm is ongoing.

Around 6:20 pm on October 12, two male youth entered the convenience store on 7th Avenue at Hurd Street, and reportedly began putting items into their pockets. A store employee locked the door and confronted the males about the intended theft. The males refused to reveal the contents of their pockets, and one of the males kicked the door to get out, shattering the glass in the process. Both males were last seen running northbound on Hurd Street. The incident was captured on CCTV footage, and police are in the process of identifying the offenders. Anyone who witnessed the incident or has more information is asked to contact Mission RCMP at 604-826-7161, file 24-12386.
