Welcome to the Mission RCMP Community Connection for October 21 – 27, 2024

Here’s a snapshot of some of the work we did that week:

A charity box collecting donations for Tim Horton’s Camp Day was stolen from the counter of the Tim Horton’s on London Avenue.  At about 7:10 pm on October 25, a man entered the Tim Horton’s, stole the donation box, and walked out.  He is described as a Caucasian male with short brown hair, a camouflage-style jacket, and a black shoulder bag.  Anyone who can identify the person in the attached photo is asked to call Mission RCMP at 604-826-7161.

Mission RCMP responded to two workplace accidents that week.  The first occurred on the afternoon of October 25, at a warehouse off of Gill Avenue.  A 58-year-old man was moving a cart of sheet metal, when the metal fell on him, causing injures that were significant but not believed to be life-threatening.  The man was air-lifted to hospital.  The second accident occurred in the overnight hours of October 27.  A 59-year-old truck driver was adjusting the trailer on his semi-truck while it was parked at a grocery store in Mission.  The trailer rolled back and caused a serious but non-life-threatening head injury to the man.  He was transported to hospital and the investigation is ongoing.

A road rage incident around 12:30 pm on October 26 caught the attention of several witnesses at a gas station on Lougheed Highway near Dewdney Trunk Road.  Police spoke with the driver of a white Dodge Journey, as well as the driver of a green Honda Accord.  After the Journey passed the Accord along Stave Lake Road, the Accord reportedly started following closely behind the Journey, until the Accord pulled into the gas station.  The Journey driver then got out and approached the Accord driver, who reportedly pulled out, nearly struck the Journey driver, and side-swiped the Journey.  The driver of the Accord was issued multiple tickets for his actions.  Police remind anyone involved in a road rage incident not to engage with the other driver.  Either just drive away, or call police.

Another wire theft occurred – this time near the intersection of Shook Road and Lougheed Highway.  The offender(s) cut a utility line around 3 am on October 27, and stole around eighty metres of cable.  The value of the wire stolen pales in comparison to the costs involved in fixing the connection.  Please call 911 if you see any suspicious activity around utility lines or hydro poles.

Lots of stuff fell off trucks during the week.  Mission RCMP were notified of five mattresses and a tire on Ferndale Avenue, some ramps on Keystone Avenue – including a car reportedly driving with a ramp dragging underneath it, a variety of boxes and junk on Lougheed Highway near Silverdale Avenue, and three exercise balls rolling along on the Mission Bridge.  Drivers are reminded to properly secure their loads, and that the address of the Mission Landfill is 32000 Dewdney Trunk Road.

Multiple impaired drivers were taken off the roads by Mission RCMP during the week, including the following two: On October 26 around 10 pm, an officer in the area of Cedar Street and Tunbridge Avenue saw a white Honda CRV driving erratically, and pulled it over to check the driver’s sobriety. The driver stated he was just practising his parking.  The 32-year-old male driver from Mission failed two roadside screening tests, and received a 90-day driving prohibition and a 30-day vehicle impound.  A few hours later, a white Mercedes caught the attention of an officer on Moffat Avenue near Dewdney Trunk Road. The driver also failed a roadside screening test and had his licence prohibited and the vehicle was impounded.

Finally, around noon on October 27, Batman was seen in Heritage Park - or possibly just a grown man in a Batman costume.  Of course, it’s Halloween-season and costumes aren’t completely unexpected.  This particular Batman was reported to Mission RCMP because the witness was concerned that he had actual bear spray cannisters on his belt, as opposed to the usual implements carried on Batman’s utility belt, such as Bat-rope, a Bat-Light, and a Batarang.  An officer attended and walked through the park, but alas Batman was gone, and the officer had to settle for only seeing a robin.
