File # 2024-12787

The Real Canadian Superstore in Mission was evacuated last night, after a suspicious fire started inside the store.

Mission RCMP and the Mission Fire Rescue Service attended the store shortly before closing time at 11 pm, after a fire started in the toilet paper aisle. Smoke from the fire quickly spread throughout the store, and the sprinkler system was activated. All customers and employees exited safely, although some experienced minor smoke inhalation. The fire department was able to put out the fire before it could spread to other parts of the store, however the smoke and water damage is significant, and the store remains closed.

Fire investigators and Mission RCMP are currently working together to gather evidence – both from an examination of the fire scene, as well as from interviews of witnesses and from a review of CCTV footage. Initial indications are that it was intentionally set, however further investigation is needed before that can be confirmed. Anyone who was at or around Superstore on the night of October 22 and saw anything that caught their attention is asked to call Mission RCMP at 604-826-7161.
