File # 2021-speeding
On May 30th one of Langley’s Traffic Officers conducting speed enforcement was astonished when the Radar advised him that the vehicle coming towards him was travelling at 152 km/h. This was particularly high given the speed in the 3300 block of 216Street is 60 km/h!
The driver, a 25-year-old male from Langley was northbound in a 1991 Eunos Roadster. Given the generally high traffic volume on the weekends of both vehicles and cyclists, operating a vehicle in this manner is particularly hazardous.
The Roadster was impounded for seven days and the driver will bear the cost of the tow and storage. Further, he was issued a violation ticket with a $483 fine and upon conviction he will be subject to a driver risk premium of $461 for the next three years.
Speed is the #1 contributing factor for car crash fatalities. An average of 27 people are killed in speed-related crashes every year in the Lower Mainland. Please slow down!
