The Kamloops RCMP Detachment responded to approximately 476 calls for service over the long weekend, Friday Aug. 30, to 9 a.m. on Tuesday Sept. 3, 2024. Below are some highlights from those reports.
Hit and run report with injuries
2024-28673
The Tk’emlúps Rural RCMP Detachment is investigating an incident in which a man was located with serious injuries on Paul Lake Road Friday morning.
On Aug. 30, 2024, just before 7 a.m., police were called to the Yellowhead Highway and Paul Lake Road where a person was observed on the side of the road with obvious injuries. The victim was transported to hospital in serious condition.

Arson at the police station

A man is facing charges related to a fire in the front lobby of the Kamloops RCMP Detachment Friday evening.
On Friday Aug, 30, 2024, around 6:45 p.m., a frontline officer located a fire in the vestibule of the detachment at 560 Battle St., in Kamloops. The officer quickly put out the fire with an extinguisher, but not before it caused damage to the direct dispatch phone in the foyer.
As part of the investigation, a male was arrested and held for a bail hearing, during which he was remanded in custody until a scheduled court date.

Fatal collision

A man is sadly deceased following a single-vehicle collision on the Halston Connector this weekend.
On Saturday Aug. 31, 2024, around 3:27 a.m., emergency responders were called to the 300-block of the connector, where an eastbound motorcycle reportedly left the roadway and crashed. A bystander was on scene assisting with CPR. The sole rider was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.

Assault with a weapon

Police took a man into custody Sunday afternoon in relation to an assault with a weapon report.
On Sept. 1, 2024, around 1 p.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers responded to the 900-block of 10th Street where a man allegedly attempted to assault a person known to him, with a weapon. Officers arrested a suspect and held him in custody for a bail hearing.
The man was charged and later released on an order with a court date for this month.

Serious assault investigation

Police are looking for information and witnesses as part of an investigation into an assault on a trail off of Westoby Road Monday morning.
On Sept. 2, 2024, around 7:30 a.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers were called to gas station on the 1700-block of the Trans Canada Highway East where paramedics were tending to a woman with serious burns, who had allegedly been assaulted with a weapon and then had her tent lit on fire. The parties involved are believed to be known to each other.
The General Investigations Support Team, fire investigator, and Forensic Identification Unit are assisting in the ongoing investigation.
