File # 2024-10409

One man has been arrested following a weapons complaint that caused a brief roadway closure on Wednesday evening.

Just before 7 p.m. on Wednesday April 10, 2024, frontline officers from the Kamloops RCMP Detachment were called to a motel on the 500-block of Columbia Street West for a report that a man was in possession of a firearm.

Columbia Street West vehicle and pedestrian traffic was interrupted for a brief period while the incident was unfolding.

Officers from the Southeast District Emergency Response Team along with the Police Dog Service assisted frontline officers in containing the area and safely taking the man into custody, said Staff Sergeant Janelle Shoihet of the Kamloops RCMP Detachment. An imitation firearm was recovered in a subsequent search of the scene.

The 47-year-old Kamloops man has been released from police custody, pending the outcome of the investigation.
