Kamloops man facing firearms related charges

A traffic stop near the Overlander Bridge led to police seizing a firearm and arresting a man for multiple related offences recently.

In the early hours of March 30, 2024, Kamloops RCMP frontline officers were conducting investigative patrols related to a call for service, when they located and initiated a traffic stop on a white sedan without its taillights illuminated. As part of the investigation, officers located weapons including a loaded Glock 42.

A man was arrested and held in custody for a bail hearing related to eight charges, said Corporal Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP Detachment spokesperson. He was remanded in custody until his next court appearance, scheduled for April 11.

Tyler Dean Rear, 27, of Kamloops BC, is charged with the following: careless use, storage, or transport of a Glock 42 pistol; carrying a concealed weapon; occupying a vehicle knowing there was a prohibited weapon inside, the Glock 42; possessing a prohibited weapon without a licence; possessing a prohibited weapon, possessing a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm; possessing a firearm knowing that the serial number had been altered, and possessing a prohibited or restricted firearm while prohibited.
