Robbery: one in custody for offences including aggravated assault

An open-line call for help led Kamloops police to arresting a man for robbery, aggravated assault, and assaulting a police officer yesterday.

On Tuesday April 2, 2024, around 12:30 p.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers were called to the area of Angus Street and Mackenzie Avenue for a report involving two people fighting, followed by a plea for police.

Officers arrived and located a man with serious injuries and a suspect nearby, said Corporal Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP Detachment spokesperson. Shortly after, the suspect allegedly assaulted a police officer.

The victim was transported to hospital by ambulance. The police officer was uninjured.

Jamie Jason Gillam, age 26, is charged with one count each of robbery, aggravated assault, assault a police officer, and theft under $5,000. He was remanded in custody until his next court appearance, scheduled for April 10.
