In just four days, 27 people were arrested and large quantities of drugs and weapons were seized during a Kamloops enforcement effort targeting drug traffickers.

On March 20, 2024, members of the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit British Columbia (CFSEU-BC) Uniform Gang Enforcement Team (UGET) arrived in the city to assist the Kamloops RCMP Detachment’s Targeted Enforcement Unit (TEU) and Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) with a four-day project to help reduce and suppress violent offenders in the community. During the joint-effort, police seized more than two kilograms of illegal drugs including suspected meth, cocaine, and fentanyl, as well as two handguns, a replica handgun, knives, bear mace, and batons.

Through collaboration with local units and UGET, we strive to address the root causes of crime while upholding the principles of justice in the pursuit of an even safer community. Local police will continue to utilize intelligence-based approaches and joint-partnerships to help hold violent offenders accountable and reduce their presence in Kamloops, Supt. Pelley added.

The assistance of UGET was requested following a series of enforcement actions related to the local drug trafficking trade.

We appreciate the continued efforts and support of CFSEU-BC in Kamloops, which undoubtedly had a positive impact disrupting the drug supply and violence in the community, said TEU Sergeant Kevin McIntyre. We are committed to working with all of our law enforcement partners to ensure as safe a community as possible.

Throughout the course of the weekend, 24 files were create specifically related to the targeted enforcement, which included motor vehicle investigations, suspicious vehicles and occurrences, warrant executions, prohibited driving, weapons and drug offences. A stolen vehicle was also recovered.

The overt presence of our UGET officers in communities throughout the province is a key activity that allows CFSEU-BC to contribute to the overall success of reducing gang-related violence, said Sergeant Brenda Winpenny, Media Relations Officer for the CFSEU-BC. Collaboratively working with the many policing agencies in our province contributes to the overall success of CFSEU-BC to fulfill our mandate in reducing the incidents of gang-related criminal activity and associated violence that threatens the safety of our communities in British Columbia.
