The Kamloops RCMP Detachment responded to approximately 353 calls for service from Friday Oct. 27 to 9 a.m. on Monday Oct. 30, 2023. Below are some highlights from those reports.

Impaired driving crash

A semitruck and trailer collision on Hwy 5 led to a man losing his license for 90 days.

On Monday Oct. 30, 2023, just before 1 a.m., Tk’emlúps Rural RCMP frontline officers were called to a motor vehicle collision in which a semitruck had left the roadway and crashed in the southbound ditch. Two occupants inside were uninjured. As part of the investigation, a roadside breath test was administered which registered a fail reading, indicating a blood-alcohol level exceeding .08.

The driver was issued a 90-day driving prohibition and 30-day vehicle impound under the Motor Vehicle Act. Arrest in break and enter

Police attending a report of a break and enter in progress left with one man in custody.

On Oct. 30, 2023, around 12:40 a.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers responded to a commercial location on the 2500-block of the Trans Canada Hwy E for a report of a person attempting to get into vehicles. Police located and arrested a man found inside of a truck, near the rear of the property.

The suspect was later released with a court date and conditions. Charge recommendations are anticipated as part of the assessment and approval process. Impaired driving arrest

Tailgating an unmarked police vehicle was included in the driving behaviour that led to an impaired driving investigation this weekend.

On Sunday Oct. 29, 2023, around 2:35 a.m., a Kamloops RCMP frontline officer was on the 400-block of Victoria Street when he observed the vehicle, and approached it to investigate further. The driver provided two roadside breath samples, which both registered ‘Fail’ readings, indicating a blood-alcohol content exceeding .08.

The driver was issued a 90-day driving prohibition and 30-day vehicle impound under the Motor Vehicle Act, as well as a violation ticket for having liquor in a motor vehicle.

Drug seizure from vehicle

Approximately 19 grams of suspected meth and fentanyl were located in a vehicle on the North Shore on Sunday.

On Oct. 29, 2023, around 3:28 a.m., a Kamloops RCMP frontline officer was conducting patrols on the 700-block of Tranquille Road, when he observed a white Buick Century occupied by a person who appeared to be passed out in the driver’s seat, with the vehicle in gear.

As part of the investigation, two bags of suspected illegal drugs were seized.

Sunroof standing leads to impaired driving arrest

A driver found himself at the centre of an impaired driving investigation, when his passenger was caught standing up through the vehicle’s sunroof.

On Saturday Oct. 28, 2023, around 11:15 p.m., a Kamloops RCMP frontline officer was making patrols on Victoria Street when he observed the vehicle on 5th Avenue, and initiated a traffic stop. As part of the investigation, roadside breath tests were administered that both registered a fail reading.

The vehicle was impounded for 30 days and the driver received a 90-day driving prohibition under the Motor Vehicle Act.

Pedestrian stuck on the North Shore

Kamloops RCMP officers are investigating after a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Tranquille Road and Singh Street.

According to the report, a vehicle was travelling southbound on Singh Street, then turned left onto Tranquille, striking a pedestrian on Oct. 28, around 9:45 a.m.. The victim was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver was cooperative.

Seymour Street collision

A portion of Seymour Street was closed Saturday morning as emergency responders attended a collision near 5th Avenue.

On Oct. 28, 2023, around 10:15 a.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers were called to Seymour Street where a vehicle was reported to have pulled into traffic and in doing so, collided with an eastbound vehicle, flipping that vehicle onto its roof.

Kamloops Fire and Rescue helped remove a person from the overturned vehicle. All occupants were transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries reported.
