The Kamloops RCMP Detachment responded to approximately 372 calls for service from Friday May 5, to 9 a.m. on Monday May 8, 2023. Below are some highlights from those reports.

Rural Kamloops – fatal collision

The Tk’emlúps Rural RCMP Detachment is investigating a fatal motorcycle collision on Shuswap Road.

On Saturday May 6, 2023, around 5:25 p.m., police were called to the area of Shuswap and Miner roads in response to the collision. Officers arrived to find civilians performing first aid on one of the motorcyclists injured in the crash, but she sadly succumbed to her injuries. A second motorcyclist was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

At this time, no criminality is suspected by police. The BC Coroners Service is conducting a concurrent investigation.

Police presence on Hugh Allan Drive

Multiple police officers attended an Aberdeen storage facility on Sunday evening for a report involving a vehicle and possible firearm.

On May 7, 2023, around 6:55 p.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers responded to the report, in which a person had allegedly took someone else’s vehicle, was actively refusing to return it to them, and possibly in possession of a firearm.

Officers attended and arrested two suspects. Several bags of suspected illegal drugs were seized, but no firearm was located. Both people were released without process, pending the investigation’s conclusion.

Impaired driving - North Shore crash

A Chase man lost his license for 90 days after his vehicle struck a utility pole and rolled over on the North Shore.

On May 7, 2023, around 10:30 p.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers were called to the 700-block of Sydney Avenue. Police located the driver and demanded he provide a sample of his breath as part of the impaired driving investigation, but he refused – an offence which carries the same weight as exceeding .08.

The man was issued a 90-day driving prohibition and 30-day vehicle impound under the Motor Vehicle Act.

Flight from police investigation: vehicle damaged

A Tk’emlúps Rural RCMP Detachment vehicle was damaged just after midnight on Monday, when a person fled from officers during an investigation.

On May 8, 2023, around 12:30 a.m., a police officer was conducting patrols when he observed a vehicle between two businesses on the 500-block of Mount Paul Way. As the officer approached, the vehicle --- an older model brown four-door Ford Fusion -- began to move away and a traffic stop was initiated.

During the officer’s investigation, drug paraphernalia and suspected weapons were observed. A backup officer arrived and the suspect fled in his vehicle, striking and damaging a police cruiser during the process.
