File # 2022-41008

This release was modified on March 3, 2023, due to clarification on preliminary information included in the original release. The second paragraph has been modified to address where the vehicle was stolen and where the suspect was arrested.

A Kamloops man is currently in custody following an investigation into stolen vehicles that started in November.

On Tuesday Feb. 14, 2023, members of the Kamloops RCMP Crime Reduction Unit located a green Dodge pickup truck reported as stolen from Pinantan Lake on Feb. 9, 2023. A suspect was arrested nearby on the 900-block of Jasper Avenue.

Yesterday’s arrest is part of an ongoing initiative which began in November 2022, when the Crime Reduction Unit created a plan focused on reducing vehicle thefts and targeting prolific offenders to hold them to account, said Superintendent Jeff Pelley, Kamloops RCMP.

We are holding the man in custody and recommending charges related to possession of stolen property and prohibited driving as part of the ongoing investigation, said Sergeant Jason Pole of the Crime Reduction Unit.

While police were investigating the stolen vehicle, they also located and arrested a woman in connection with a separate possession of stolen property investigation. She was released with a court date.

Both investigations are ongoing. Anyone who witnessed or has information related to these investigations or video footage involving the green truck in the area, is asked to please contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2022-41008.
