File # 2023-2796

Kamloops RCMP frontline officers were able to help get a man to hospital for medical attention, following a check wellbeing request in Dufferin last night.

On Jan. 23, 2023, just before midnight, Kamloops police were called to a residence on Mount Dufferin Crescent, where a man was allegedly experiencing a drug induced mental health crisis and behaving in a threatening manner.

Officers attended the location and attempted to calm the man down, but were unsuccessful.

Due to the risk the man’s behaviour was presenting to the officers and to himself, police deployed a conductive energy device to assist in his apprehension, said Corporal Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP spokesperson. The man continued to be combative with police even after he was placed in handcuffs.

With the assistance of the paramedics, he was transported to the hospital for medical treatment under the Mental Health Act. Anyone with information related to this incident, is asked to please contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2023-2796.
