The Kamloops RCMP Detachment responded to approximately 372 calls for service from Friday Jan. 13, to 9 a.m. on Jan. 16, 2023. Below are some highlights from those reports.

Break and enter on Columbia

Electronics, money, and gifts cards were stolen from a business on the 500-block of Columbia Street this weekend.

On Jan. 15, 2023, around 8:20 a.m., the Kamloops RCMP Detachment received a report of a break-in during which a masked suspect entered twice: first around 8 p.m. and then again around 1 a.m.

Man arrested following multiple calls

An intoxicated man got to sober up in cells after police received multiple reports of him knocking on random doors.

On Jan. 14, 2023, around 9:50 p.m., police attended a neighbourhood on Leigh Road in response to the calls. There, they located a suspect inside a vehicle, parked and blocking the laneway. The vehicle was out of gas and inoperable.

The suspect was arrested for causing a disturbance and being intoxicated in public. He was lodged in cells to sober up safely. The vehicle was towed from the roadway.

Impaired driver arrested downtown

A woman lost her license for 90 days following a series of events which included fleeing from police on Sunday morning.

On Jan. 15, 2023 around 2:30 a.m., a police officer was on Fifth Avenue when he noted a white sedan leaving through in alley and almost striking a group of pedestrians. The officer located the vehicle at a red light on Victoria Street and observed its driver using a cellphone. He conducted a traffic stop, but the driver drove away. Around 3 a.m., the vehicle was located in an alley near the 400-block of Seymour Street and the driver was arrested.

Roadside breath tests were administered as part of the investigation and both registered readings of fail, indicating a blood alcohol content exceeding .08. She received a 30-day vehicle impound, 90-day driving prohibition, and violation tickets for using an electronic device while driving and failing to stop for police.

Drugs seized, driving prohibition issued

An impaired driver left a traffic stop Friday night with a driving prohibition, vehicle impoundment, and minus a significant amount of drugs and cash.

On Jan. 13, 2023, around 9:30 p.m., a frontline officer was patrolling the area of Fifth Avenue and Lansdowne Street when she stopped a brown Nissan Altima she suspected was being operated by an impaired driver.

As part of the investigation, a man was arrested and a subsequent search followed. Brass knuckles, paraphernalia associated with drug trafficking, approximately $9,000 in cash, and numerous quantities of suspected controlled drugs were seized by police, including 44 grams of fentanyl, 89 grams of meth, 12 grams of cocaine, four grams of crack, 23 tabs of LSD, and dozens of pills.

A man received a 24-hour driving prohibition and vehicle impound for drug impairment under the Motor Vehicle Act. He was released without process, pending the investigation’s conclusion and subsequent charge recommendation process.
