Kamloops man charged with theft, driving, and breach offences

A Kamloops man is facing seven new charges less than two weeks after he was released on an order by the courts.

On Nov. 3, 2022, around 7:45 a.m., Kamloops RCMP responded to a report of a stolen commercial van. During their investigation, the van led them to Paul Lake Road.

The suspect was recognized by police and when the officers attempted to stop him, he allegedly fled in the van in a manner that was dangerous to the public, said Corporal Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP spokesperson.

Updates on the vehicle’s location led police to the area of Nicolani Drive and Lethbridge Avenue, where it had stopped. A suspect was arrested near Singh Street following a brief foot pursuit.

John Robert Beauchemin, age 36, of Kamloops, is charged with the following: theft of a motor vehicle; dangerous driving; fail to stop a motor vehicle while being pursued by a police officer; operating a motor vehicle while prohibited; two counts of fail to comply with a release order,; and possession of property obtained by an offence. His next court date is scheduled for Nov. 10.
