File # 2022-37523

A Kamloops man is in police custody following a report of an assault with a weapon and a theft at a North Shore store.

On Wednesday Oct. 19, 2022, around 2 p.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers attended the 300-block of Tranquille Road, where two people were allegedly assaulted after they chased a theft suspect out the store.

An officer observed an image of the suspect, then conducted patrols in the area, said Corporal Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP spokesperson. Shortly after, on the 100-block of Yew Street, the officer located a bike matching the description of the one used by the suspect, followed by the suspect nearby.

Jeffrey Ernest William Trump, 36, of Kamloops is charged with two counts of assault with a weapon and one count of theft under $5,000. He is scheduled for court later today.

Anyone who witnessed or has information related to this investigation is asked to please contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2022-37523.
