File # 2022-37339
An Alberta man has been released with a court date in Kamloops as part of an ongoing investigation into a collision that closed a portion of Columbia Street yesterday.
Around 4:20 a.m. on Oct. 18, 2022, Kamloops RCMP frontline officers were called to the area of Columbia Street between 12th and 13th avenues where a number of vehicles and properties were damaged by a semi-truck. A suspect driver allegedly fled from the transport truck, but was located soon after and taken into custody as part of the criminal investigation.
The suspect was later released by police and given a court date in relation to Criminal Code driving offences, including impaired operation of a motor vehicle, with charge recommendations to follow,
said Corporal Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP spokesperson. Although the suspect has received a court date to answer to the alleged offences, the investigational requirements are ongoing and police encourage anyone with information or video related to the incident to please reach out as soon as possible.
No one was injured despite the damage in the area. The roadway remained closed well into the evening while work occurred to remove the damaged vehicles, including the semi.
Anyone in the area with security or dash cam footage that may have captured yesterday morning’s events, or who witnessed the incident and has not yet spoken with police, is asked to please contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2022-37339.
