Kamloops, BC—The City of Kamloops is pleased to announce that Inspector Jeff Pelley has been selected as the new Officer in Charge of the Kamloops RCMP Detachment. After a selection and interview process involving Mayor Ken Christian, CAO David Trawin, and the Southeast District RCMP, their recommendation was endorsed by the RCMP.

Inspector Pelley will build upon the legacy of Superintendent Lecky with a strong focus on evidence and community-based policing, says Mayor Ken Christian. Jeff has extensive general duty experience, strong leadership skills, and a capacity to triage serious incidents. From gangs and drugs to domestic and mental health concerns, Jeff will lead from the front and is committed to calming the streets and making Kamloops a safer city.

Kamloops is a dynamic and growing city, with a diverse population that will benefit from Insp. Pelley’s policing experience and established relationships with community partners.

Truly appreciate the leadership Supt. Syd Lecky has provided in Kamloops, says Chief Superintendent Brad Haugli, Southeast District Commander. Insp. Jeff Pelley has been a strong addition to the Kamloops RCMP’s senior management team. His experience, commitment to community and ability to inspire others positions him well for success as the new Detachment Commander.

The last 4 ½ years as the Officer in Charge of the Kamloops RCMP has been an incredible experience. I have had the benefit of working with a fantastic team of members and civilian staff, says Supt. Syd Lecky. Key partnerships have been established as we worked to address many of the ongoing and emerging policing pressures in the Kamloops area. A special thanks to the City of Kamloops Mayor Ken Christian, Council, and leaders who have supported me during my tenure as the Officer in Charge. Insp. Jeff Pelley joined our team as our Operations Officer and seamlessly transitioned into his role. His impact was immediate demonstrating leadership, professionalism and community engagement from the start. Jeff is definitely qualified and also a great person. My sincere congratulations to Jeff who is best positioned to address the policing challenges in our community.

Inspector Pelley grew up near Kamloops and he has close to 23 years of policing experience with the RCMP. His career has included positions in Prince Rupert, Kamloops, Kelowna, 100 Mile House, New Hazelton, North District and Williams Lake. He has worked in frontline operations, Serious Crime, been a Watch Commander, Advisory NCO, worked with Indigenous communities, and has been a Detachment Commander twice before in New Hazelton and Williams Lake. During his career he has been recognized for resolution skills, strategic planning, and enforcement strategies involving gang and offender violence. In April 2021, Insp. Pelley became the Operations Officer for the Kamloops RCMP where he was responsible for General Duty, Investigative Services and several support units. Jeff, his wife and 2 kids truly enjoy calling Kamloops home.

I am thankful to be selected as the Kamloops Detachment Commander and extremely grateful, says Insp. Jeff Pelley. I look forward to building on the current successes of all the women and men to making our community safer, as it is an amazing place to work and live. My family and I are ecstatic that we were able to return to Kamloops last year after being posted here in 2003 as a frontline constable. I am alive to the community issues and commend our employees on their dedication and tenacity over the past year where I worked closely with the Detachment as Operations Officer. I look forward to being the team’s Officer in Charge and making Kamloops a safer community.

Now that the selection has been made, a plan will be developed to ensure a smooth transition within the next few weeks. Once Insp. Pelley assumes the role and responsibilities, he will be formally promoted to the rank of Superintendent.
