The Kamloops RCMP Detachment responded to approximately 418 calls for service from midnight Friday Aug. 19, to 9 a.m. on Aug. 22, 2022. Below are some highlights from those reports.

Drug impaired driver

A man had his vehicle impounded following a traffic stop on Columbia Street West Friday morning.

On Aug. 19, 2022 around 8:45 a.m., a Kamloops RCMP frontline officer was on patrol when he observed a vehicle being driven erratically in a plaza parking lot on the 1100-block of Columbia Street West. During the stop, the man allegedly tried to leave and was arrested for obstruction. As part of the investigation, the driver was issued a 24-hour prohibition, tickets for having no insurance or valid driver’s licence, and his vehicle was impounded.

The man was lodged in cells, assessed by Car 40, and found to be having a mental health crisis. He was apprehended under the Mental Health Act and taken to the hospital for care and assessment.

Apprehension in the drive-thru

A vehicle responsible for multiple reports from Red Deer to Kamloops finally came to a stop in a Valleyview drive-thru.

On Aug. 19, 2022, around 5:15 p.m., the Tk’emlúps Rural RCMP Detachment was dispatched to assist Barrierre and Kelowna detachments in locating a vehicle reported previously as being driven recklessly by someone wanted on a Form 21 Mental Health Apprehension Warrant.

Local officers observed the vehicle near Rayleigh and followed it until it exited the East Trans Canada Highway, where it entered a restaurant drive thru. The driver was apprehended and taken to the hospital by police, as per the warrant.

Stolen vehicle recovered following crash

A woman was arrested for impaired driving and possession of stolen property, following a collision on the North Shore this weekend.

On Aug. 20, 2022, around 2:35 a.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers were called to a parking lot on the 700-block of Tranquille Road, where a vehicle had driven into a concrete median with a tree in the middle, and a woman was slumped over the steering vehicle. Police checks revealed the vehicle had been reported stolen on Aug. 18. As part of the Criminal Code impaired driving investigation, the woman was transported back to the detachment to provide samples of her breath, which registered a blood alcohol content as high as 240 mgs of alcohol per 100 mls of blood. Driving with a blood alcohol content exceeding 80 mgs is a criminal offence, but legal consequences begin at lesser amounts as well.

The vehicle was returned to its rightful owner and the woman was released with violation tickets, conditions, and a court date following the investigation’s conclusion and subsequent charge recommendation and assessment process.

Skateboard, car collision

A man was taken to hospital following a collision under the overpass at Fortune Drive near the Overlander Bridge this weekend.

On Aug. 21, 2022, around 6:15 p.m., police were contacted by ambulance for the crash, which occurred when a man on a skateboard came down the abutment, across Fortune, and skidded under the vehicle.

The man was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Weapons report downtown

Multiple reports of a woman with a knife led to a large police presence downtown early Monday.

On Aug. 22, 2022, around 12:40 a.m., police received reports of a woman yelling and running at people with a knife in the area of 3rd Avenue and Victoria Street. Multiple officers attended, but the suspect was not located. She was described as Caucasian, in her late 30s, with grey-blond hair, wearing a blue jersey.
