File # 2022-26500/27952

A missing man presumed drowned in the Thompson River was located Thursday morning.

On Aug. 11, 2022 around 8:35 a.m. Kamloops RCMP frontline officers and Kamloops Fire and Rescue Service were called to Aviation Way for a report of a body caught in some logs near the float plane docks. Officers attended, confirmed a man was deceased, and contacted the BC Coroners Service.

Since then, the man’s identity has been verified and his family notified of his death, said Corporal Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP spokesperson.

His death is not considered criminal in nature.

The man was reported missing on July 30, 2022 around 5:30 p.m., after he entered the Thompson River near McArthur Island to assist a child in distress. He was swept away by the current and did not resurface.

No further information will be released by police out of respect for the family.
