Update: Sequoia Place police presence cleared

A high-risk situation on Sequoia Place led to one person being safely taken into custody today.

On June 10, 2022, around 10:50 a.m., the Kamloops RCMP Detachment responded to the 700-block of Sequoia Place to check the well-being of a person believed to be in emotional distress. While there, information obtained indicated the presence of weapons and the situation was deemed high-risk. The Southeast District Emergency Response Team attended to assist. Police asked residents to stay inside their homes and requested the public to please avoid the area during their response.

After hours of attempted negotiation, police were able to enter the residence and safely apprehend one person under the Mental Health Act. He was immediately taken to the hospital for medical assessment and care. No charges are being recommended at this time.

Police presence was cleared at approximately 6:30 p.m.

Please be advised of a police incident restricting access to Sequoia Place. The public is requested to please avoid the area. Neighbourhood residents are asked to please stay inside their homes until police presence is cleared.
