File # 2022-16522/16535

A man and a woman are facing numerous charges after a stolen truck report led police to a second stolen vehicle.

On Thursday May 19, 2022 around 7:30 a.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers responded to the Pineview area for a report of a vehicle theft in progress. Police followed the vehicle to the end of Hugh Allan Drive, where a male suspect was observed entering a grey truck driven by a woman.

The grey truck had been reported stolen from Midway on May 17 and was associated to an attempted vehicle theft in Kelowna on May 18.

Officers stopped the vehicle, but when it attempted to evade police, two RCMP vehicles were damaged in the process of the apprehension.

This happened in a residential area, during a time of day when the roadways are especially busy with kids making their way to school and adults travelling to work, said Constable Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP spokesperson. By stopping the truck, police were able to prevent it from fleeing the area, which would have increased the risk to public safety and allowed it to continue to be used for criminal activity.

No one was injured during the collisions. A Calgary man and woman, both known to police, are being held for a bail hearing. The woman, who was wanted on an Alberta warrant, was also bound by numerous release conditions, including to not be in any motor vehicle without the registered owner present.

Anyone who witnessed, has dash cam, surveillance footage, or information related to this investigation is asked to please contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2022-16535.
