The Kamloops RCMP Detachment responded to approximately 419 calls for service from midnight Friday April 8, to 9 a.m. on April 11, 2022. Below are some highlights from those reports.
Attempted theft

Police are investigating a report of an attempted mugging downtown this weekend.
On April 9, around 1:30 a.m., a woman was walking on 6th Avenue and Victoria Street when a group of youths allegedly tried to take her coat and purse. She was able to run away from the area and stay on the phone with dispatch until she made it home safely.

Car theft in progress: man arrested

A man remains in custody following an attempted vehicle theft in the early hours of Saturday morning.
On April 9, 2022, around 4:20 a.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers were called to a vehicle theft in progress on the 1700-block of Knollwood Crescent. Two people confronted and attempted to stop the suspect, who then allegedly rammed another vehicle, backed into a utility poll, and nearly ran over one of them. He fled on foot and was captured by one of the people, just as police arrived and took the suspect into custody.
The suspect was on house arrest and probation. He remains in custody with multiple charge recommendations put forth as part of the assessment process.
Man arrested at the North Shore police station

A man was taken into custody after he walked by the North Shore RCMP Detachment with a suspected pistol in his hand.
On Friday April 8, around 3:25 p.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers were in the parking lot of the Detachment at 7th Street when they observed the man and ordered him to drop the gun. The man stated it was fake, then tucked it into his waistband. He was ordered onto the ground and taken into custody.
Officers confirmed the weapon was fake. It was surrendered to police for destruction. The man was lodged in cells for being intoxicated in public and later released.
Break and enter in progress

A report of a break and enter in progress led to a man being arrested Saturday.
On April 9, 2022, around 7:10 p.m., Kamloops RCMP responded to a break and enter in progress on Glenwood Drive. The suspect was known by the residents and left prior to police attendance. He was located soon after, arrested, and released with conditions and a court date, with charge recommendation anticipated following the investigation’s conclusion.

Police presence on St. Paul Street

Multiple frontline officers responded to St. Paul Street Sunday evening, following a report of a man experiencing a mental health crisis.
On April 10, 2022, around 8:35 p.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers were called in response to a man making threats and actively aggressively. The man had since left the address he was at and relocated to St. Paul Street. Police located and spoke with the man, then apprehended him under the Mental Health Act.
He was transported to the hospital for assessment and support.
