The Kamloops RCMP Detachment responded to approximately 281 calls for service from midnight Friday Jan. 7, to 9 a.m. on Jan. 10, 2022. Below are some highlights from those reports.

Police called to bear spray assault

A man was arrested for theft after police were called to a report of an assault with a weapon at a North Shore restaurant this weekend.

On Jan. 7, 2022, around 6:55 p.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers attended the 600-block of Fortune Drive for a report of a man who was bear sprayed during an altercation with three people. A description of the suspects was provided and two were quickly apprehended nearby. Further investigation revealed the third suspect also stole a backpack belonging to the victim.

The third suspect later went back to the restaurant, returned the backpack, and was arrested for theft. The victim did not wish to pursue charges. The suspect was released without charge recommendation.

Person in water report: no one located

A report of a person falling through ice on Friday night led to emergency service responders searching an area near the Overlander Bridge.

On Jan. 7, 2022 around 9:25 p.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers, fire, and ambulance attended the southern river bank, west of the bridge, in response to the report. Use of the FLIR did not locate a potential victim, nor did a walk of the shoreline reveal any snow prints leading onto the ice.

Police were unable to substantiate the report.
