Woman’s escape from alleged forcible confinement leads to arrest

A Kamloops man, who has now formally been charged criminally for the alleged forcible confinement and assault of a woman, remains in custody and is expected back in court today.

On March 11, 2021 just before 5:30 a.m., Kamloops RCMP responded to a report of an armed man outside a home in the city’s downtown core. During their initial response to the scene, police learned that the female caller had fled to the location for help.

The victim was medically assessed at the scene by BC Emergency Health Services. She was transported by ambulance to hospital for medical treatment, states Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey, spokesperson for the Southeast District RCMP.

The suspect, a 59-year-old Kamloops man, was apprehended during a traffic stop conducted by front line RCMP officers near the scene.

We are asking anyone who was in the area of the Kings Motor Inn in the 1700-block of the Trans-Canada Highway and noted any suspicious activity between March 2 and March 10, 2021 and has not already spoken with police, to call the Kamloops RCMP, adds Cpl. O’Donaghey.

The BC Prosecution Service has approved criminal charges against, David Norman Myales, including unlawful confinement, various forms of assault including assault with a weapon, uttering threats, break and enter with intent to commit an offence, use a firearm while committing an indictable offence and pointing a firearm. Myales is expected to appear in Kamloops Law Courts on March 15, 2021 at 2 p.m.

Given this matter has now entered into the judicial process. no further details are being released at this time.
