BC RCMP notify the IIO BC of an incident in Kamloops

The BC RCMP has notified the Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia (IIO BC) of an incident in Kamloops that resulted in injury to one man.
Just after 8 p.m. on March 12, 2021 a frontline officer from the Kamloops RCMP was conducting routine patrols in the area of 600-block of Columbia Street West in Kamloops, when he observed a fight in progress.
The officer placed one man under arrest for assault, but prior to being able to take the man into custody, an interaction occurred. After being taken into custody and while en route to the Kamloops
RCMP Detachment the man complained of injury.
BC Emergency Health Service transported the man from the Kamloops RCMP to a local area hospital, where it was determined he was suffering from serious injury.
Frontline officers from the Kamloops RCMP are continuing to investigate the assault.
IIO BC is investigating to determine whether police actions are linked to the man’s injuries. As the matter is now under investigation by the IIO BC, no further information will be released by police.
