2023-05-18 13:37 PDT

Coquitlam RCMP wants to remind the public to properly secure homes and business while on vacation.

As the weather warms up, many people plan to spend more time outdoors or travelling. It’s important to review your home or business security frequently to ensure your property is less appealing to thieves. A large percentage of property crime is opportunistic and the Police want to provide some tips to prevent such crimes.

Crime prevention is all of our responsibility, said Corporal Alexa Hodgins from Coquitlam RCMP. By planning ahead and taking a few extra precautions, people can lessen the chances of opportunistic crimes to unoccupied property.

Vacation Plans

Prior to leaving on vacation, there are several tips that you can implement to prevent theft. By taking a few simple precautions you can lessen the chances of returning from vacation to find your home has been broken into.

If your home, garage, shed or business was broken into, call the Coquitlam RCMP non-emergency to report it at 604-945-1550. If you witness a break-in or theft in progress, or if you believe the suspect is still inside or near your property, stay back and call 9-1-1.
