Riverside Secondary School evacuated as Coquitlam RCMP deal with a threat
Due to a police incident, an evacuation has been initiated at Riverside Secondary School at 2215 Reeve Street, Port Coquitlam. Police are currently on scene working with School District 43 staff to ensure that students, staff, and members of the public in the surrounding areas are safe.
Everyone, including parents or guardians of students, are being asked to avoid the area and avoid calling 911 to ask for more information. When more information is available, updates will be posted to the Coquitlam RCMP website.

Facts about evacuations:
• Usually they are not a police event. Typically, a fire, gas leak, or something similar might trigger an evacuation and police are there to help keep things safe and orderly,
• Non-essential communication, including the use of cell phones and other electronic devices, is prohibited,
• Students and staff move away from school property to a pre-determined rally point,
Only emergency responders are allowed to access the rally point and school property until the emergency is over.
