File # 2022-0107

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has confirmed additional information regarding the shooting deaths of four persons in a Richmond residence on January 24, 2022.

Update: The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) continues to analyze evidence found at the scene at the 4500-block of Garden City Road. Homicide investigators are able to confirm that the victims are from a single family and consist of a father age 71, mother age 58, and two adult children ages 23 and 21. The extended family have requested privacy and so the names are not being released.

Homicide investigators are confirming that this does not appear to be an incident of partner violence. At this stage, preliminary findings suggest that one of the family members was the shooter. IHIT investigators have followed the evidence, starting with a search warrant without presumptions on motive or responsibility.

At this time, evidence uncovered suggests this was a murder-suicide, however, final confirmation is not possible until ballistics are analyzed and autopsies are completed.

Factors leading up to this shooting are still being determined, said Sergeant David Lee of IHIT, people are searching for answers and asking if there were signs. We hope to provide more answers in days to come.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at
