IHIT deployed to North Vancouver after two found deceased

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has taken conduct of investigation after two people were found deceased in North Vancouver.

Background:

On August 20, 2024, at 4:30 a.m., North Vancouver RCMP responded to reports of two people that had fallen off of a balcony at an apartment complex in the 100 block of East Esplanade Avenue. Frontline officers attended and located two females suffering from injuries sustained during the fall. Despite life-saving efforts from both officers and first responders, including North Vancouver City Fire Department and British Columbia Emergency Health Services (BC EHS), both females succumbed to their injuries on scene.

Update:

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) took conduct of the investigation. Police are now able to clarify that the deceased are two females, one adult and one school-aged child.
IHIT is working in partnership with the North Vancouver RCMP, the Integrated Forensic Identification Section (IFIS), and the BC Coroners Service to determine the circumstances that led to this tragic event.

Police believe the two were known to one another and are not looking for any other suspects at this time, said Corporal Esther Tupper of IHIT, There is no ongoing risk to the public and this is an isolated incident.
