Many RCMP officers from the south of Vancouver Island volunteered to join forces on Sunday February 18, 2024 for a friendly exhibition game of hockey against many fierce young athletes who were excited to play against police officers.

Youth remains one of the RCMP’s strategic priorities stated Corporal Alex Bérubé, spokesperson for the RCMP in British Columbia. Therefore, promoting youth engagement and empowerment through a friendly game of hockey was one way to share smiles, mentorship and positive interactions with our community members.

South Island Ravens is a co-ed team program through West Shore Parks and Recreation for young children with special needs. There are currently two teams (Under 16 years and 16 years and over). They all share one passion: their love for hockey said coach Terry Phelps of the South Island Ravens.

The RCMP took a loss on both games, not for a lack of trying. They are vowing to take on the Ravens again in a near future!
