Coquitlam RCMP launch new buy and sell exchange zone outside of the main detachment

Coquitlam RCMP have created a buy and sell exchange zone outside the Coquitlam RCMP Main detachment, located at 2986 Guildford Way, Coquitlam. This area allows residents to complete online transactions or transfer children between parents and/or guardians, in a safe known location.
The safety and security of the community is our top priority,
said Corporal Alexa Hodgins of the Coquitlam RCMP. This is an excellent way to promote safe and respectful transactions.
A prominent sign located outside the Coquitlam RCMP Main Detachment’s main entrance, marks the spot that will be under video surveillance 24/7. This area will not be actively monitored, but allows people to have easy access to assistance if necessary.

The Coquitlam RCMP detachment is open from Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Police are recommending that the public utilize this buy and sell exchange zone during business hours.
Online buy and sell transactions are commonly used by many citizens. There are numerous benefits to online private commerce however, there are risks. Many people have become victims of crimes such as robberies, frauds and thefts when attempting to buy or sell property online. Coquitlam RCMP aims to increase public safety and reduce crime by giving people a place to conduct face to face transactions.
The Coquitlam RCMP’s buy and sell exchange zone is well-lit and monitored by security cameras near the front entrance to the Coquitlam RCMP detachment,
said Media Relations Officer, Corporal Alexa Hodgins. We are encouraging the public to utilize this space if they are planning to buy or sell something online.
If you are unable to utilize this area, Coquitlam RCMP is providing tips to protect yourself during a buy and sell exchange:
- Complete your transaction during daytime hours
- Bring a family or a friend with you
- Never complete a transaction by mail
- Limit the amount of personal information you provide
- Meet at a public location which is well lit and busy
- If something seems too good to be true, it probably is
