Every holiday season, West Shore RCMP officers and Municipal staff engage in initiatives to support our community members. This year, one of those initiatives was the
The initiative is exactly how it sounds, the
reverse of a traditional Advent Calendar. Instead of taking something out of the Advent Calendar, we chose to put something in. The non-perishable food items in these hampers are items we asked our staff to add in daily. These are common food items most families would find themselves purchasing during their holiday grocery shop.
Different units within the West Shore RCMP formed teams and took on filling up the hampers with all the essential pantry items. We will be delivering these hampers over the next week.
The holiday season is typically a time of joy, but for many struggling with food security it can be a time of stress. The hampers will go to families in need that would benefit from this initiative by taking some of the pressure off their shoulders. We are very thankful to our officers and staff who purchased all the food items for the hampers, said Cst. Cole Brewer, who organized this event and is a member of the West Shore RCMP Indigenous Policing Unit.
