Update – bodies of pilot and passengers recovered from plane crash

The RCMP in Port Hardy and the RCMP Dive Team have recovered the bodies of the pilot and two passengers who were involved in a small plane crash in Strachan Bay, north of Port Hardy.

Port Hardy RCMP were initially called to investigate a small plane crash on November 23, 2022 where the pilot and the two passengers were not accounted for. Read previous news release here: Investigation underway into small plane crash

Efforts to locate the plane and any potential survivors have been ongoing since the day of the crash says Corporal Alex Bérubé, spokesperson for the BC RCMP. Working through challenging weather conditions, our divers were able to locate the bodies of the pilot and the two passengers on Saturday, November 26.

There is no criminality suspected. The investigation has now been turned over to the BC Coroners Service.
