The West Shore RCMP participated in cultural protocol and canoe races in celebration of National Indigenous Peoples Day with the detachment Indigenous Police Service canoe.

On June 21, 2022, the West Shore RCMP spent the day at Royal Roads University celebrating National Indigenous Peoples Day. The event started with a traditional canoe landing protocol and welcoming ceremony.

In the afternoon, the West Shore RCMP participated in the Swutth’tus Canoe Challenge with the detachment canoe, Tl’Ches Spirit. The Tl’Ches spirit paddle crew was led by skipper, Constable Cole Brewer with the West Shore RCMP Indigenous Police Service Unit.

We are honoured to have been invited to partake in the cultural protocols as a sign of respect of reconciliation and cultural revitalization, says Constable Cole Brewer.
