The Chilliwack RCMP has teamed up with local elementary schools so that students can do their part to help the motoring public understand the importance of safe driving and school zone speed limits.
Earlier this week, students from Central Elementary and Vedder Elementary have been putting their artistic talents to work in order to send a message to Chilliwack drivers through the Think of Me
speed initiative. Students drew pictures to illustrate how they would like to tell their community to slow down so that they can be safe.

On Wednesday, May 18th, members of the Chilliwack RCMP Traffic Section and Youth Team, together with Speedwatch volunteers, ICBC and the City of Chilliwack Safer Cities program handed out Think of Me
tickets in front of Vedder and Central Elementary. These ‘Think of Me’ tickets serve as a reminder of the importance for drivers to slow down and respect the 30 km speed limits in school and playground zones,
says Sgt. Krista VROLYK media spokesperson for the Chilliwack RCMP.Not only does this initiative provide drivers with a meaningful message to slow down, but it engages students in a creative and safety minded initiative which helps keep kids safe.

When a person is pulled over, the hand drawn Think of Me
tickets are given to drivers to say thank you for thinking of me when you are driving through this school zone.
The Chilliwack RCMP would like to thank the staff and students of both schools for their amazing contributions and participation in this project.
Tips for Drivers:
- Obey the posted speed limit
- Remember, in Chilliwack, school zones are 30km/hr between 7:30am to 5pm when school is in session.
- Playground zones are in effect from dusk until dawn seven days a week.
- Slow down and be realistic about travel times to reduce your risk of crashing.
- Reducing your speed gives you more time to react.
- Watch for children, especially near or around crosswalks and intersections.
- Remember children are learning from your example. Show them that you are a courteous and considerate driver.
