
Elk Valley RCMP and BC Coroners Service investigate death at ski resort

The Elk Valley RCMP and BC Coroners Service are investigating a death a Fernie ski resort on Saturday afternoon.
Just after 5:20 p.m. on February 12, 2022 frontline officers from the Elk Valley RCMP were called to a local area hospital, for a report that a man had been admitted with critical injuries following a skiing incident on a Fernie ski resort. Prior to police arrival, the 65-year-old from Calgary died.
Officers determined that the man, that at approximately 4 p.m. the man a friend had been skiing at the resort when it appeared the man hit an icy portion and lost an edge, causing him to lose control and slide into a tree.
The BC Coroners Service will conduct its own investigation into the circumstances around the man’s death.
