File # 2021-10096

On June 1st, 2021 while North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP frontline officers were investigating a suspicious incident at a business at the Duncan Mall, they encountered a female the staff believed was shoplifting.  While members of North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP "C" Watch escorted her out of the business, the alarms at the doors sounded.  The woman was arrested and searched.  She was found to be in possession of a number of stolen items, numerous types of illicit street drugs with and four outstanding warrants for her arrest.

The investigation is ongoing, but a 32 year old Campbell River woman could be facing Drug Trafficking and Possession of Stolen Property charges.

This is an example of the drug trade and it's link to stolen property in our community. We really must commend the investigators for their excellent work regarding this file. It shows how something as small as a shoplifting file can lead to something much more severe in every day police work. It also shows that when the community takes part and reports suspicious or odd activities, it enables police to be active in dealing with problem locales. So really the staff at this business deserves credit for this success as well, said S/Sgt. Chris Swain.

If you wish to report criminal activity please call the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP at 250-748-5522 or in an emergency call 911.
