File # 2021-2421
On June 3, 2021, the Pemberton RCMP can confirm that it responded to a report alleging two suspects had directed unprovoked racial slurs at a complainant while she was outside her private residence on May 31.
"We are also able to confirm that regretfully, the file was concluded without obtaining a statement from the complainant, however, the two suspects were visited by the attending officer" stated Inspector Robert Dykstra.
Immediately upon learning of the incident today through social media, both the Officer-in-Charge of the Sea to Sky Detachment and Sgt. Sascha Banks, as the Acting Zone Commander for the Whistler/Pemberton RCMP detachments, contacted the complainant.
"We are grateful that she conveyed her concerns to us" stated Inspector Dykstra. "We shared our concerns with her about the way the file was handled and we assured her that a complete review of the file will occur and will be shared with the complainant to discuss next steps."
In this case, the incident will be reviewed thoroughly to ensure that we are addressing the concerns of the complainant, as well, a thorough investigation into the complaint itself will be conducted.
