Did you know?

Across the country theft of catalytic converters has risen. In 2015 ICBC received 146 Catalytic converter theft claims within BC, this rose to 1,546 in 2020.

What is a catalytic converter?

Catalytic converters are part of a vehicle’s exhaust system, they were first used in the mid 1970’s. The purpose of the converter is to make car exhaust from internal combustion engines less toxic.

What makes a catalytic converter so appealing to thieves?

How can you deter theft:
If you see something, say something!

Typically a cutter of some sort is required to remove the catalytic converter, resulting in loud noises. If you hear or see suspicious activity near parked vehicles report it to the police. If the suspicious activity is currently in process call 9-1-1. If the person of concern has left call the non-emergency 604-945-1550. Find out more about reporting criminal and suspicious activity to Coquitlam RCMP.
